Today is National School Librarian Day. I’m sure we all have stories about our own school librarians, most involving telling us to “Shhhh!” Anyway, here’s a nice quote about librarians.
“Google can bring you back 100,000 answers. A librarian can bring you back the right one.”
– Neil Gaiman
April 4th is National School Librarian Day. It is set aside to honor all school librarians. School librarians spend long hours keeping the library organized, helping our children find the resources they need to keep learning and are dedicated to creating an environment they can learn in every day of the year. All of this hard work often goes unappreciated.
Today is the first day of spring. Or yesterday was, depending on where you are!
The vernal equinox marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator. This is the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator, from south to north. This happens on March 19, 20 or 21 every year.
Here’s a fun quote about spring!
The time the sun crosses the equator marking the Vernal Equinox is different for each time zone. For those in the Pacific, Mountain and Central time zones, this will occur on March 19th. For those in the Eastern time zone, spring begins on March 20th at 12:30 a.m.
This year spring arrives a little earlier due to it being a leap year. You might remember back on Leap Day a little math lesson regarding the Gregorian calendar. To keep our calendar following the seasons so that spring happens when flowers grow and winter arrives when snow falls, an additional day was figured into years divisible by the number four.
Before this year, the earliest spring on record took place in 1896.
Ok, nature, I’m in, let’s party!
It. Is. Friday! Which means the Weekend is hours away.
“Weekends don’t count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless.”
― Bill Watterson
Spend the weekend doing something pointless. Chances are it won’t really be pointless if it is spent doing pointless shit with people you love.
Today is National Get Over It Day. If something trivial, or mildly annoying is bothering ya, well, get over it!
“I don’t think anyone ever gets over anything in life; they merely get used to it.”
― Douglas Coupland
Get Over It Day was created by Jeff Goldblatt in 2005 after having trouble getting over an ex-girlfriend. For more information visit his website at thewhatevernetwork.com.
Today is #InternationalWomensDay! If you’re here, thank a woman. Here’s an apropos quote.
“Well-behaved women seldom make history.” – Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
International Women’s Day is observed annually on March 8th. This global day celebrates the cultural, political, social and economic achievements of women. The day also brings international awareness to gender parity.
International Women’s Day origins can be traced back to the early 1900’s. Find out more on the history of the day by visiting InternationalWomensDay.com.
Today is IHOP’s National Pancake Day! Here’s a quote about pancakes. Mmmm, pancakes.
“There is hardship in everything except eating pancakes.”
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon
IHOP restaurants began National Pancake Day in 2006. Since that day, they have raised $24 million for charities. On March 7th, 2017 people from around the country will once again celebrate National Pancake Day at IHOP restaurants and enjoy free pancakes. Guests are asked to consider leaving a donation.
The theme for 2017, so far at least, seems to be “fight.” So, here’s a quote about fighting.
“Never go to bed mad. Stay up and fight.” ― Phyllis Diller
We’re gonna fight you, 2017.
